Expert Video - What kind of support will I need after lung cancer surgery, and where can I find it?

Associate professor of surgery, Dr. Madhuri Rao explains that patients often need several types of support after lung cancer surgery, including physical, medical, and emotional support. Your care team, which may include surgeons, nurses, and oncologists, will remain available after discharge to answer questions and provide guidance, and you will go home with contact information to reach them if needed. In the hospital, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and social workers will evaluate your needs and may arrange outpatient rehabilitation, such as physical therapy. Once home, it is helpful to have family or friends assist with daily activities, especially during the first month. Finally, Dr. Rao emphasizes that emotional support from loved ones is just as important, helping patients cope and recover more smoothly.
