Expert Video - Will I need to make any lifestyle changes after lung cancer surgery?

Dr. Madhuri Rao, Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Minnesota, explains that some lifestyle changes may be needed after lung cancer surgery, depending on the type of surgery, the size of the incision, and your overall health. Smaller procedures often have few restrictions, while larger surgeries may require avoiding heavy lifting or straining for a time. She advises staying active by gradually increasing activity each day, eating healthy foods, and avoiding alcohol while taking pain medications. Most importantly, she encourages patients to remain smoke-free, since this supports lung health and lowers the risk of recurrence. Many patients return to full, active lives after recovery.
